Aculon’s non-stick coatings (nano-scale “Teflon”), pro-stick/adhesion coatings (nano-scale “Velcro”), and anti-oxidation coatings can be used on a broad range of materials used in industrial applications including metals, metal oxides, polymers, and ceramics. Aculon's surface treatments are easy to apply using existing industrial processes, as they can be sprayed, dipped, ink-jet printed, roll coated, or stamped. Tin Plated Steel and Aluminum Beverage Cans: Food and beverage containers contain interior coatings or liners that protect the food and beverage from leaching metal from the container. Currently, tin plated steel and aluminum receive a chromium coating to prevent corrosion, and promote adhesion of the liner to the inside of the can. In its oxidized state, hexavalent chromium is highly carcinogenic. Industrial initiatives are underway to replace chromium metal primer with green chemistry. Aculon’s technology is green, and matches or exceeds chromium adhesion strengths for can liners.
